In early 2006 our son Harry went to Australia to work on a leading alpaca farm for 3 months. Harry returned full of enthusiasm for the new breeding techniques he had observed during his involvement with Flowerdale Estate Alpacas just north of Melbourne. Read Harry's story [Part One] [Part Two]
Flowerdale Estate Alpacas is a large breeder with over 300 alpacas on their farm. They breed from some of the most successful bloodlines in the country and are deeply involved in the new breeding technologies such as embryo transfer (ET), advanced genetic gains through their involvement in the Across Herd Genetic improvement program as well as the SRS®: breeding system for improved fleece production.
In the middle of 2007 Carol and Jeffry Farman visited our farm. Over those few days we were able to come to an arrangement to import advanced quality alpacas from Australia with their help. Together we have established an import process that allows us at Fallowfield to access high quality alpaca genetics that may be of interest to you in achieving your breeding aims. We intite you to contact us.
In October 2007 we were the successful purchaser of Halcyon Sollacotta Sunflower, the highest priced female at the Halcyon Alpacas dispersal sale. Sunflower is very special having a measured density that is twice the level of good quality Australian females. Her reading is 66 folicles per square mm. Her very special fleece is shown at right.
We have put Sunflower into the Flowerdale ET program. Our plans are to import the progeny. Some of these will be available to other UK breeders.
