Fallowfield Alpacas

Fallowfield Alpacas

Welcome to Fallowfield

Mike and Melanie Douglas started Fallowfield Alpacas in 2004 after a period of thorough research, purchasing four pregnant white females from Bozedown, including two elite females from the latest Peruvian Dream Team import. The herd has grown through selective additional purchases and sourcing the best available stud males to meet our breeding aims.

Melanie & Harry

Melanie works full-time with the alpacas, after retiring from many years as Commercial Director of an engineering company specialising in the aerospace sector – quite a change! She is totally committed to the welfare of alpacas and is really passionate about developing the UK alpaca industry into a viable commercial enterprise based on the production of high quality fibre. She has attained BAS Parts 1 and 2 judging qualification and is an active member of the North East and Borders Alpaca Club.

Mike is a qualified architect and is Chairman of a large consultancy practice with offices in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Leeds. Most of his spare time is spent in supporting and developing the alpaca enterprise and the farm.

Youngest son, Harry, also provides valuable additional support. During his gap year he worked in Australia for Jeffry and Carol Farman at Flowerdale Estate Alpacas, one of the leading stud farms in Australia. As well as forming lasting friendships this provided great support and experience to our venture, as well as an introduction to the Australian alpaca industry with its recent advances in genetic improvements and high quality bloodlines.
