Fallowfield Alpacas is located at Crag House, an 88 acre farm near Hexham in Northumberland. At 680ft above sea level, the alpaca paddocks have spectacular views to the North Tyne valley and the Scottish borders, and to the west along the Roman Wall to the Pennines. The land comprises small paddocks interspersed with shelter belt woodland, and the local dry-stone walls provide additional shelter.

Crag House is literally built on a crag overlooking both the North and South Tyne valleys. The Roman Wall, now a world heritage site crosses one of the paddocks, and generates many visitors, particularly those walking on the recently opened Hadrian's Wall walk, 80 miles from the North Sea to the Solway Firth. Much of the area to the North is part of the Northumberland National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. A public footpath bisects the main alpaca paddocks, providing a constant stream of visitors who are usually mesmerised by the alpacas with their inquisitive natures. The paddocks are natural native grassland, and are not fertilised, providing a natural habitat for an abundance of wild flowers as well as wildlife including Roe deer, red squirrels, brown hares, pheasants, partridge and curlews with their haunting cries.
We treat our paddock maintenance seriously, taking soil samples for analysis and adding minerals as required to create optimum nutrition conditions for the alpacas. The paddocks are topped regularly to maintain a constant sward height, and alpaca droppings are regularly removed to avoid worms and disease. Paddocks are enclosed by new fences or dry stone walls, and timber field shelters are provided to all paddocks, as well as fresh water troughs. Laneways are provided to allow easy movement of animals between paddocks.
